A parent can be seen as a father or mother who brings about the existence of a child through birth. It is also taken to be anyone who takes care, nurture, or raises a child. Someone’s relative who carries out the parental responsibility in the absence of one’s parent can also be taken to be a parent too.
The word “parent” can be in the form of a noun, as well as a verb. It becomes a noun when it appears to be a tag or title placed on two adults (usually male and female), who happens to be bound legally by marriage, with a child involved. It is a verb when someone (related or unrelated) appears to be acting as a parent to a child.
With these variations and diversity in the meaning of parents, we can categorize parents into types.
TYPES OF PARENT
- Biological parent. This is a mother and father who have successfully combine their Gene or DNA in the formation of a child. This kind is known to have a similar look or features with the child in most cases.
- Surrogate parent. This is seen as a third party parent whose role is to give birth to the child and then hands over the child to the couple who ends up being seen as the parent.
- Adopter parent. A person who pays some agreed amount of money to an organization, after signing some legal documents, before being transferred the responsibility of a child.
- Organizational parent. This is in the form of a group of persons who comes together to ensure a child or group of wards are being catered for.
- Religious/spiritual parent. This kind is usually not seen as one, but really is. Here, the soul and spirit of the individual(s) are taken care of.
- Academic parent. This is noticed in academic settings, usually between students. Higher level students are considered to be “school mother” or “school father”; ensuring the school child is taught how to make academic success through studies.
Conclusively, anyone who does not fall into these categories most likely appears not to be a parent.
