Families and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic

Written by Daniel Uduh

Following the current updates on the pandemic from WHO, which says that the pandemic is most likely going to become endemic. And that the virus is most likely not going away soon; it is crucial to start taking a look at the area where the pandemic is most likely going and have been affecting families. So many families all over the world have lost love ones. Husband separating from wife, mother staying away from children, and lots more. This is actually not a time to panic, but a time to adjust to a new normal.

As we all know, the virus is a very deadly virus, that spreads very fast from an infected person to person, city to city, state to state, and country to country. As a result, measures have been put in place to checkmate the widespread of this disease. Measures like washing of hands, coughing into the curve of the elbow, using a face mask, and social distancing. Unless families learn to adjust to this new normal lives might be put to risk as a vaccine for the virus is yet to be discovered.

Hunger is another uprising ‘pandemic’ that is gradually creeping into families. This is because of the lockdown of States, industries, factories, schools, etc. People no longer have a place to go earn an income for their families. While those who have savings are tampering with it others who have no savings are left at the mercy of others.

The too many ‘stay at home order’ from the government is gradually creating boredom in the life of many. And boredom is not a situation that fits the presence of the pandemic, because of its negative effect on our immune system.

Social media, television stations, and people around us are not helping the matter. As they keep passing around scary information from unreliable sources. Making one wonder if this situation will ever come to an end. Families are no more certain about the future as plans have been shattered financially by the pandemic.

Scammers and fraudsters are on the prowl both on the street and online, sending all kinds of consolation messages that looks like a solution, thereby swindling any available victim. It is indeed a time to be very cautious as so many have already fallen victim and ended up badly.

While the virus continues the killing of humans, other subtle factors mentioned earlier do the underground finishing.

What other impacts of the pandemic on families do you know?
