Rings is also used as pendants for necklaces this days. Some people so much have a flare for rings that they wear rings in virtually every finger and sometimes on toes. Rings come in various sizes and can be worn in any of the fingers of the left or right hand. Rings are very symbolic when it comes to the finger on which it is worn. While the thumb is known for power and authority, the index finger symbolizes leadership or singleness. The middle is known to be for engagement or relationship. The fourth finger says “I am married”. Then the small finger also known as the ‘pinky finger’ is known for intelligence and persuasion. This is why scholars prefer putting on rings on their pinky fingers.

Apart from these various meanings allotted to different fingers, people still have personal reasons why they wear and like rings.

A. Relationship. This can be seen as a sign of commitment, dedication, or loyalty to someone so dear.

B. Defense. People also wear rings in their fingers for defense. They need something that can add weight to their blow when they strike any opponent during a fight. In most cases, rings with the rough or pointed head is been worn for this purpose. While some prepare themselves for physical defense, some go beyond the physical. They go to spiritual houses to acquire rings for spiritual powers. So that what they can not defeat physically they can defeat spiritually.

C. Fashion. Fanciful and glittering rings are preferred when it comes to showing off. People go out to occasion, events, and parties putting on such rings as a way of fashion, so as to look good and different in the midst of many. Gold and diamond rings are mostly worn for this purpose.

D. Identity. People also wear rings to show the level or class they belong to in the society. This is why some wear rings with symbols crested on them. People now customize rings by engraving their image or name in it. Such is done for identification purposes.

E. Status. This explains the relationship status like being single, married, widowed, etc. There has also been evidence of people putting on rings that show their spiritual status. As we see in catholicism, where rings bear the images of some disciples of old-time Christian.

F. Belief. So many people believe in so many things. Some belief in tradition, religion, politics, or nature. All these various believes make people wear a ring if their belief demands they wear rings. Some traditions belief rings are a sign of connection to the spiritual and so they wear it to get a continuous connection to the world beyond.
